November 2nd
WAIM Loading Dock- renovations
8:40 am- 12:20 pm (3 service hours) 7 participants
Windham Area Interfaith Ministry provides basic needs and support to community members with insufficient incomes. WAIM is renovating its small goods area on the second floor of a 5 story building. This will include painting walls, building, shelving, installing flooring and other similar projects. Volunteers should wear clothes that they don't mind getting dirty. Sign up here.
Joshua's Trust
9:30 am- 12:30 pm (2 service hours) 13 participants
Joshua's Trust is a land trust with 4500 acres of land in 14 towns surrounding Storrs/Mansfield. The beautiful land offers an outdoor service-learning experience close to the UConn campus. Volunteers will maintain trails, clear overgrowth on significant features of properties, and control the spread of invasive plant species to the best of our abilities. Volunteers will use loppers, rakes, and occasionally shovels. Participants should wear long sleeved t-shirts, long pants, and hiking boots/shoes that can get dirty. Sign up here.

Volunteers will be working outside in Goodwin Park changing light bulbs in displays that are dulled or broken in preparation for the Holiday Light Fantasia. Holiday Light Fantasia is an event that is run each Winter to raise money for Channel 3 Kids Camp. Volunteers should dress for the weather (shoes/boots that you don't mind getting dirty, layered clothes, hat, gloves (thin nitrile gardening or work gloves are terrific for grasping the small bulbs). Holy Family Home and Shelter, Inc. is operated by the Sisters of Charity of our Lady Mother of the Church. The home endeavors to serve those families whose circumstances have deprived them of an adequate lifestyle and housing. Holy Family Home and Shelter does not seek to pass judgment on any person for their current or past lifestyle. The Shelter's safe harbor allows for assistance in finding solutions to alleviate their own situation for those capable of living in harmony with others, while respecting their own mutual rights. Volunteers will help with a variety of indoor and/or outdoor projects which may include mowing the lawn and raking leaves, organizing resident closets, cleaning the kitchen and sorting the food pantry, and washing up stair floors. Volunteers will be planting native shrubs and perennials, cutting back and removing invasive plants and vines, and cleaning up garden debris and litter in the park's pollinator garden areas and along the Airline Trail and East Coast Greenway. Horizons, Inc. creates and sustains opportunities for people who have developmental disabilities and other special needs. This service project is aimed at helping the camp team set up for upcoming weekend programs. James L. Goodwin Conservation Center is a Connecticut state forest and education center covering approximately 2,000 acres in the towns of Chaplin and Hampton. This event is aimed at cleaning and maintaining the grounds of the forest through tasks such as leaf raking, painting, garden and trail maintenance, and installing walking paths .
