Pathways Exploration Internship Program – Summer Opportunity

Pathways Exploration Internship Program - Summer Opportunity

The Pathways Exploration Internship (PEI) is a 12-week career training program during the summer that provides paid exploratory opportunities and exposure for historically excluded groups within the museum field. We define historically excluded groups as people who identify as Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC), immigrants, LGBTQIA+, those who have been involved in the criminal justice system for nonviolent offenses and fostered youth. The intention of this program is not to provide a career pathway specifically within the Denver Art Museum, rather it is to support and understand the different career pathways within a museum while developing skills necessary to pursue a career in the arts and cultural field.

What are the goals and desired outcomes of the PEI Program?

The goals of the program are to:

Expose people from historically excluded groups to the museum/arts and culture industry.
Provide knowledge of museum career opportunities.
Provide professional development and training to interns.

The desired outcomes of this program are:

Equip early career professionals with portable skills and abilities to work in the museum/arts and culture field.
Build a pipeline of museum trained professionals.
Develop long term communication methods to track interns in future career placements.

Compensation and Benefits Available for the PEI Program:

This internship requires a 40 hour per week commitment, May 18—August 5.

Wage: $16.50 per hour. Selected interns will also receive:

Free museum membership during the length of the internship
20% discount at the Museum Shop
Discount at MAD Greens, BurgerFi, Leven Deli, and other nearby restaurants
Invitations to select museum openings and events

EASTCONN – Summer Work Opportunity

EASTCONN - Summer Work Opportunity

The Connecticut Youth Employment and Training Program offers more than a summer job. It’s an annual employment opportunity, where youth are trained in the skills that employers are seeking, including skills for health careers, worker safety, clerical, landscaping, human services, food preparation, and more. Offered through the Eastern Connecticut Workforce Investment Board, in partnership with EASTCONN, Norwich Human Services and New London Youth Affairs, the Connecticut Youth Employment program is for eligible youth, ages 14 to 24, who reside in eastern Connecticut. Participants are paid minimum wage to work approximately 80-100 hours during July and August, and some internships continue longer. Internships may be in person or remote, and include trainings in pre-employability skills, such as resume writing, goal setting, career interests and lifestyle budgeting, as well as getting connected with their local community.  The purpose of the program is to help youth obtain the skills needed for their career pathway.

2021 Avenue of Dreams Prom Giveaway for foster and adopted teens

2021 Avenue of Dreams Prom Giveaway for foster and adopted teens

The Avenue of Dreams is a prom giveaway event for foster and adopted teens. It is an opportunity for them to receive free prom and formal attire, attend workshops, have their hair and makeup done (young ladies) and barbers for the boys. We have a DJ and fashion show. And at the end of the day, each teen gets to walk away with a gift bag full of body products. And we also have a raffle. It truly is an amazing day. We are currently looking for volunteers to assist. We are still in need of fairy glam mothers, shining knights, dressing room attendants and shoe attendants. While we know COVID has put a damper in things, we are proceeding cautiously and we are cautiously optimistic that we will still be able to hold the event in on 3/5/2021 at 08:00 am. We will be preparing to ensure everyone's safety should the event still go forward.

VOLUNTEER TO HELP THE ELDERLY IN THE TOWN YOU LIVE IN

UR Community Cares, Inc. was established in 2019 to introduce an intergenerational platform that connects local volunteers with age-qualified adults (age 70+, or age 18+ for those with a physical disability) who need assistance at home. As the population of older adults grows dramatically, we provide tangible support for “aging in place” and maintaining social connections for improved health outcomes. Each town we serve has its own dedicated base of volunteers who are assigned to residents in that town, fostering additional opportunities to build neighborly communities.

Arts & Crafts Volunteer

This would be an activity teaching simple Arts & Crafts to the elderly. You can get ideas off of Pinterest and I will supply the materials needed. The class would be on day or evening whichever works best for you but must be on the same day and time each week. Thursday evenings are out as they play bingo and you don't mess with that! lol. There are usually only about 4 or 5 in the group. This would be good for one-two volunteers. Please feel free to call me with any questions. Eileen at 860-429-9933 or email me at edoughty@ehmchm.org , whatever works for you.

Fall for Enfield Community Fair

Join us for our third annual 'Fall for Enfield' Community Festival on Saturday, October 5th, on the Enfield Town Green.

Volunteers are needed to assist in set-up, guiding vendors to their assigned locations, fall activities for children and families, photographing the event, selling mums, break down, and clean up. There will be food vendors, craft vendors, games, a car show, live entertainment, and more.

40 or more volunteers will be needed from 8:00 am - 10:00 am to help guide vendors to their spots on the map and to help them set up their booths and wares. This will consist of heavy lifting and placement.

Throughout the day we'll need 30 volunteers in total to help curate and bring to life our activities such as our prize wheel, arts and crafts, lawn games, and more! We will need a volunteer with their own camera to help photograph the event and we’ll need a volunteer for selling mums and to manage our holding area where attendees can keep their mums for later pick up during the event.

Lastly, we'll need 20 volunteers to help clean up the Town Green during the event's commencement, starting at 4:00 pm - 5:30 pm.

After submitting your application on United Way, please specify your availability which is organized into 2-hour shifts on our secondary sign up sheet here: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/805094da9ae2eaaf85-fall

When arriving at the event, Volunteer sign-in will be at the ERfC table and we will guide you to your designated areas.

Parking for volunteers will be at the corner of Enfield Street and North main. Across from CVS on Enfield Street, there will be a white building, a former Broyle hill furniture store, and parking will be located behind it. It's a short stroll to the extravaganza.

Let us know if you have a preference (unloading, leading activities, clean up, etc.) to help with, and we’ll do our best to accommodate everyone’s strengths.

For more information, feel free to contact me, Allyson Rowe at arowe@erfc.us, 860-253-9935.

Let’s welcome the Fall season to Enfield’s community together!
