Help the Office of Community Outreach to continue to enrich learning at the University of Connecticut through preparing students to be active global citizens by engaging them in service activities that enhance the quality of life for both others and themselves. Community Outreach benefits from two funds through the UConn Foundation: the Community Service-Learning Fund and the Community Outreach Service Award Fund.
Community Service-Learning Fund
Inspired by UConn’s commitment to developing active global citizens, Community Outreach’s mission is to engage students in meaningful service activities that enrich their learning and enhance the quality of life for others in our local, national and international communities.
Student leaders are an integral part to the success of Community Outreach programs as all CO programs are student led with over 100 students holding formal leadership positions. They design and implement activities that meet client needs and recruit, train, and supervise volunteers and work-study employees.
Community Outreach offers the following services which are supported through this fund:
- One-time and regular service programs that meet self-identified community needs.
- Volunteer and federal work-study positions in local human service agencies and schools.
- Professional and leadership development for participants and coordinators.
- Advising for individual students, student organizations, faculty and staff who desire assistance in developing a service-related project.
- A point of access for community partners wishing to engage the UConn student body in public and community service initiatives.
Community Outreach Service Award FundCommunity Outreach’s mission is to engage students in meaningful service activities that enrich their learning and enhance the quality of life for others in our local, national, and international communities. The service award has been inspired by UConn’s commitment to develop active global citizens and is aimed at decreasing financial barriers to undergraduate students wishing to pursue service and civic engagement opportunities and programs through University sponsored programs. The award honors individual students as well as student groups who plan to engage in a community service project.
